What is a Jira Dashboard?

The Jira dashboard is like a control panel for your projects. You can create several dashboards for each project you work on, or you can view your system in different ways.

Furthermore, Jira has some advanced apps and gadgets that allow you to keep track of your projects and related issues.

The development teams can organize their work and optimize various project attributes easily through such dashboards. Hence a well-organized panel with suitable displays and gadgets could give you great results.

How to create a Jira DashBoard

Log-on or Create New Jira Cloud Account

I have used Jira Core Cloud to create this project; you can use this link to go to the site. Create an account using your email address and add a name for your website.

Create a new Jira Project

Create a project using Create Project Window with a suitable project name.

Navigate to Dashboard Menu

Click the Dashboards menu to create a dashboard in the appeared interface.

Fill-in Dashboard Details

Give a dashboard name and a description in the appeared window. You can control your dashboard’s accessibility with the “Access” section.

Set Dashboard Access

Select “Project” to give access to the users within your project. ”Group” will provide access to site admins, and “My organization” will give access to any user who can log into your site. Select “Private” if you want to create a personal dashboard. Click the save button to create your dashboard.

Add Gadgets to Dashboard

Now that you have successfully set your dashboard up, you are ready to add gadgets and customize your dashboard.

What Are Jira Gadgets?

Jira Gadgets are small applications that are used to summarise the overall activities assigned to a particular person. There are different types of popular gadgets that users prefer to use. The following are some famous examples:

  • Filter Results Gadget allows the user to filter out data by a pre-saved filter and display the most needed information. Urgent and overdue tasks are two examples of this.
  • Issue Statistics Gadget is used to track the progress of your developer. Also, it will give the details of the whole project progress.
  • Road Map Gadget displays the details of product versions that can be issued and other sprints’ progress.
  • Calendar Gadget displays versions and issues of the developing products regarding its deadlines using a calendar format.
  • Pie Chart Gadget is used to display details of many attributes, issues, and fields in a pie chart format. You can see specific details of each pie by hovering the mouse over each piece.
  • Sprint Health Gadget is used to display the project’s progress in a color-coded bar-based format.

How to Add Gadgets To Jira Dashboard

Click ‘add new gadget’

Click “add a new gadget” to add gadgets to your window.

Load Full Gadget List

Click on ‘Load all gadgets’ to view all available gadgets. Click “Add a gadget” in the below image to add them to your dashboard window. If you are specific about the gadget you want to use, you can use the ‘Search’ field on the left-hand side to search gadgets you wish to add. Moreover, you can see all the available categories.

Finalize and Save your Dashboard

The following is the appearance of the dashboard once you add the widgets. In the image below, I have used a set of gadgets that can keep me updated with the project status, track work progress, and check the tasks I have to complete.

You can see your work, projects, created filters, created dashboards, and people working with the tasks and apps you have integrated to Jira in Jira Core Cloud platform’s menu bar. For example, you can add your teammates for the jobs and manage your teams with the “People” menu. It is effortless to use and enjoyable.
